November 6 -It's Root Time

Nov 06, 2022

Dear Common Awakening Friends,

It is root time.

During this season of autumn moving into winter the plants and trees are releasing their leaves and sending their energy deep within The creative power of summer abundance is going underground into the roots. I’m sitting with one of my favorite root medicines, Oregon Grape Root (Mahonia Aquifolium) An overview of Oregon Grape Root, a wonderful anti-microbial medicine and bitter that supports digestion and it has an amazing yellow root. As an herbalist, we gather roots in the Fall because that is when they are most potent and medicinally active Sustainably harvesting roots..

We can use this reflection from nature to guide us into our own root timea season of letting go and drawing our energy deep within to allow what is most active and alive within us to coalesce and be nurtured. In order to bring our energy deep into our roots we need to release and let go like the leaves falling from the trees to bring our energy within our core, our roots. You may want to consider the following reflections to help you draw into your own roots during this season:

  1. What is ready to fall away, has fallen away, or wants to fall away in your life to give you increased, focused energy to draw deep within you? Take a moment and see what rises from within you as you reflect on what is releasing within you and in your life.
  2. What wants to coalesce deep within you–to bring you an alchemical opportunity to solidify and nurture your focused energy? Drop within your core right now and listen for what is coalescing and moving below the surface. Is there one word or picture, a sense or image that rises? Feel the essence and allow.
  3. If this energy is given time and space to grow, what can come forward in your life in a new way? Feel any rising energy that has sparkle, or movement, draws you down or bubbles upward. Use your 2ndsenses of seeing, hearing, knowing, and feeling to honor what is going on in your own, underground space.

Pay attention over the coming days for opportunities to honor the roots. Take a few more walks in nature and sit down on the earth and feel the power of the roots below you. Consider adopting one daily practice that encourages you to embody “root reflection time” to both honor and help constellate the energy that is brewing within you. And, this is a wonderful time to practice using your 2nd senses to open you even further to your inner energy movements and to join with the living energy that surrounds us during this season—especially the energy moving deep in the earth. What is most potent and alive within your roots?

When we listen into our core—our deep tap root—we hear messages that we otherwise might miss. Don’t let this season pass you by without attending and honoring your own roots, the roots of where you come from, and the deep root that is your soulful anchor.

With love,

Annmarie
